24 displaced after lightning strike causes fire at State College apartment building

Two dozen students are displaced Monday morning after lightning struck an apartment building in State College Sunday causing it to catch fire, the Centre Region Fire Administration confirmed.

The fire broke out at the Tremont Apartment Complex, which is on the 200 block of Vairo Boulevard.

Officials say they were called to the apartment complex a little after 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

They say the fire started in Building F.

Crews evacuated the building and contained the fire to the attic.

They were able to clear the scene at 9:15 p.m.

First responders say Penn State students and others who live in the building have been displaced due to the damage caused by the fire.

Bystanders 6 News spoke with say they're thankful the fire happened during a time when most students were not on campus.

Authorities say no one was injured in the blaze and the Red Cross has been called to assist the residents.
