Beach Boys' Brian Wilson placed under conservatorship following wife's death

WASHINGTON (TND) — Musician and co-founder of the '60s rock band The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, has been placed under a conservatorship, according to court records reviewed by CNN.
A Los Angeles judge found "clear and convincing evidence" that a conservatorship was necessary and noted that Wilson consented to the conservatorship, court documents read.
The documents further state that Wilson is "unable to care for his person" has a "major neurocognitive disorder" and “lacks capacity to give informed medical consent for medications.”
"The Conservatee has a Major Neurocognitive Disorder and lacks capacity to give informed medical consent for medications and the conservator is granted authority to authorize the administration of medications appropriate for the care and treatment of Major Neurocognitive Disorder described in Probate Code section 2356.5(c)," the document reads in part according to TheWrap.
The specific condition Wilson has been diagnosed with was not disclosed.
Following the death of his wife, the Wilson family announced in February that family friends, Jean Sievers and LeeAnn Hard, were appointed as co-conservators.
A post on Instagram states: "Following the passing of Brian’s beloved wife Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation among Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos and Brian’s doctors (and consistent with family processes put in place by Brian and Melinda), we are confirming that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as Brian’s co-conservators of the person."
"This decision was made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes to the household and Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the house who have been in place for many years helping take care of the family," the statement continues.
Court documents also state Wilson "is easily distracted, often even when aware of surroundings, and its purpose. “This decision was made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes to the household and Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the house who have been in place for many years helping take care of the family."
Wilson called his wife his "anchor" in a post on his website and "Melinda was more than my wife. She was my savior."
"She gave me the emotional security I needed to have a career," he wrote. "She encouraged me to make the music that was closest to my heart."
In 1988, Wilson and The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
As a solo artist, Wilson won two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 2005 and Best Historical Album in 2013.
