York County man charged in shooting death of father
WELLSVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say a York County man is charged with shooting and killing his father following an argument.
According to NBC affiliate WGAL, the shooting happened late Monday night at a home along Carroll Street in Wellsville.
Wyatt Dettinger, 21, now faces charges of that include criminal homicide.
WGAL reports Dettinger was in a "fit of rage" in his bedroom and began hitting a television with his hands and a rifle. According to a criminal complaint, a 17-year-old girl was in the room with him at the time of the incident.
Dettinger's father, Duane Dettinger, came into the room and asked him to stop, WGAL reports. The complaint states after leaving the room Wyatt Dettinger shot through the wall with the rifle, hitting his father. Wyatt Dettinger shot his father a second time while he was on the floor, the complaint says.
WGAL says another woman was also in the home at the time of the shooting and ran to a neighbor's house for help. Neighbors told WGAL the woman is the victim's girlfriend.
According to the complaint, Wyatt Dettinger and the teen fled the house. Police attempted to pull their car over, but Wyatt Dettinger fled the car and ran into the woods near Northern York High School.
WGAL reports he had a firearm when he was taken into custody.
