HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Greater Pennsylvania Military Preservation Association is working to bring a military museum to Legion Park.

Organizers plan to build the museum in an open field to the left of the park's entrance.

"My grandfather served in World War I, my father in World War II, I served and my son's also serving currently in the army," association president Thomas Gray said.

Gray has a collection of military memorabilia, including tanks, grenades and items men and women have used in wars throughout American history.

"We'll have a little bit of everything from all of the different services. We're going to cover everything from The Civil War to the present day," he said.

He said the association hopes to have the museum completed in 2019.

"It's not going to be set up like a regular museum," he said, adding, "It's going to be a very hands-on place."

Gray wants the museum to be an educational resource center where families can learn together.

"I'm hoping that those who've served will bring their kids and show them a little bit of what they've done," he said.

The project is still in its early stages.

Gray said that the association hopes to begin fundraising soon, with an estimated total of $600,000.
